A resident of New York, Lynne Strong-Shinozaki is an activist and community volunteer who has served as an elected member of the New York State Democratic Committee since 2013. With a passion for supporting the arts, Lynne Strong-Shinozaki is a life member of the Art Students League of New York.

Beginning in September 2018, the Art Students League of New York launched a new professional-level class for high school juniors and seniors. Taking place on Sunday afternoons during the 2018-19 academic year, students in the class practice the fundamentals of oil painting including different techniques for expressing light, color, form, and composition.

Attaining one of the 25 spots in the class is a competitive process. Students must submit an art portfolio with their application. Those who are accepted receive a full scholarship that covers tuition and materials. The course is taught by prominent still life painter Amy Weiskopf, who studied at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and Rome.
